Hard enough for some guys to get the nerve to ask her in the first place, and then you decide to make the vows in a wicker basket a few thousand feet in the air?!  You’re setting the bar pretty “high” Bill.  Glad to be a part of it!! Continue reading

A couple weeks ago I mentioned I set up a photo booth at a wedding I shot recently.  The bride asked if it was something I could do, and after seeing it done at several weddings, I thought I’d give it a shot.  [Ed.- Apologies to those who have no idea what some of the technical stuff refers to…yeah, it’s a little gear geeky.] Continue reading

Setup my first ‘photo booth’ this weekend.  Gotta say, it was totally worth it.  Especially when you can do this…that’s the bride up front, btw 🙂  Gimme a week or so and I’ll post all about it.

Zack Arias recently blogged about wedding photography.  It’s pretty long and I doubt you’ll be able to get through it all unless you’re really bored, or you’re a dork like me.  But the jist of it is that wedding photography is often treated like the bastard cousin of all  other fields of photography.  He says the industry actually deserves some of it due to its shallow trend-driven subculture.  He says wedding photographers actually have one of the toughest jobs in photography, but that the industry as a whole is doing them a disservice.  In sum, the industry just plain lacks originality and discourages risk taking and individuality.  Continue reading

Anticipation

Here’s another image from Katie and Nic’s wedding.  This is right before their first look.  I love how Katie sneaked up from behind and really made him wait.  It was pretty funny actually.  At some point, I was wondering if she was ever going to come around in front of him, but it turned out she was waiting for my direction!

Unfortunately, the title of this post isn’t just about this shot.  Other things have been going on that aren’t as warm and fuzzy as Katie and Nic’s beautiful wedding.  The first being that my monitor burned out last week!  I paid over $600 for a 26″ Dell monitor and it only lasted me four years.  Can you believe that?  I was pretty devastated about the whole thing.  I spend so much time on this computer that having to go back to a small 10-year-old CRT monitor really sucks.  After researching online, I found it’s a common problem for this monitor and it would cost almost as much to fix as buying a new one so….yeah, the new one is on its way.  And it’s not a Dell.  Never again.

So yeah, here’s to anticipation!

Don’t take my advice.

I shot Katie and Nic’s wedding this past weekend in Sisters, Oregon.  She’s a dear friend and I really appreciated her letting me be a part of her special day, despite giving her terrible advice at one point a couple years ago.  See, they met while in the Peace Corps in Guatemala and one day I received an anguished email from her while she was there, explaining how she had met this guy and didn’t know if she wanted to get really serious with him.  Of course, I told her to ditch the dude and live free!!  THAT’s why she was there!!!  Well, it’s a damn good thing she didn’t listen to me.  They’re a great couple.

Anyway, I just started going through the photos and already this is one of my favorites.  I think it has some kind of old-timey feel to it that I like.  And Katie’s just a character, too.

They couldn’t have had better weather or a more beautiful day all around.  And that’s saying a lot because come late September in Oregon, you never know what you’re gonna get.  It turned out perfectly, though.  More to come soon…

Congratulations you two!!
